Yoga and Pilates for Belly Dancers Saturday, February 27th 9 - 10 am In this class, students will begin by exploring the use of the abdomen, chest, spine and pelvis through a series of yoga postures and dynamic flows. Using Pilates inspired strengthening and stabilizing exercises as well as yoga-based breathing techniques and poses, students will work to develop flexible, fluid strength and most of all, an increased awareness of their bodies. This class is appropriate for individuals of all skill levels. Please bring a yoga mat.
Experiential Anatomy for Belly Dancers Sunday, February 28th 9 - 11 am Jennifer will be facilitating this experience with a focus on anatomy as it relates to belly dance practice, performance and teaching. This class will include lecture and experiential anatomy explorations using yoga and somatic movement practices that will be applicable to belly dance technique and performance. You will be encouraged to learn about your incredible and amazing body through the direct experiences of moving and being in your body as well as by observing others. With this increased body awareness not only can you go deeper in your own practice, but you will be better able to help facilitate this awareness in your students so that they can move safely and consciously with joy. Please bring a yoga or exercise mat.

ABOUT MIRA The multi-faceted career of Mira Betz is a testament to her passionate artistry and desire to for continual growth. Mira began her training in Middle Eastern dance as a young teen studying primarily with Katarina Burda for over 10 years, where she developed a solid foundation of contemporary, traditional, as well as ritualistic dance forms. In 1996 she studied with Jamila Salimpour and Suhaila Salimpour. In 1998 Mira went abroad to live and study in Morocco. Active in theater, dance and the performing arts for 20 years, Mira Betz has become a sought after dancer, choreographer, costumer, and teacher—confirmed by her nomination of "Instructor of the Year" by Zaghareet Magazine 2006. Mira Betz received her B.F.A. from the California College of Arts and Crafts. Her dance background includes training in Salsa, Modern, Jazz, and Flamenco. Mira continues to spread her experience, knowledge and love for dance through her captivating performance and engaging teaching style. Please visit her website at www.miramania.com
ABOUT THE INTENSIVE Mira will take you to the core of her practice in this 3 day (13 hr) intensive, addressing movement with intension, strong form and execution, and cleaning technique for a sharper more poised dance presence. An outspoken advocate for the ennoblement of this dance form, Mira will also explore, through lecture writing and discussion, such themes as ethics, pricing, and how the present trends in this dance are affecting its progression. She believes it is important to not only hone your abilities as a technician, but to also develop your art within the context of its place socially and historically; to explore our responsibilities as dancers, artists and humans. Mira creates a safe dynamic learning space to do just that. We are not taking registrations for this event quite yet. If you are interested, please save the date. More details will be released soon!
